Tripoli, 23 November 2013:

Gunmen tonight shot dead a security officer near his home in the Al-Jibela district of Derna.

Fares Al-Zaroog was shot down with automatic weapons in a busy street. Reportedly a member of former regime’s security apparatus, Zaroog was fired on from a “Chevrolet taxi”. Eyewitnesses of this morning’s kidnap of Iraqi lecturer Hamid Khalf in Derna said that the vehicle in which he was travelling to work was forced to stop “ a Chevrolet taxi”.

Zaroog died instantly in a hail of bullets. His death comes a day after the murder of Fawzi Al-Zuwki, the secretary of Derna’s Shura Council (council of elders). Since last Saturday, a judge and two traffic policemen have also been murdered. Islamic militants as suspected to be behind the killings.
