London, 24 June 2021:

The Second Berlin Conference on Libya ended yesterday releasing a 58-point statement. The statement was full of ''calls'' for the implementation of the various Libyan political landmarks: the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum Road Map, the holding of the 24 December 2021 elections on a constitutional basis, the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries and troops, the UNSC Resolutions.

Giving his initial reaction on the outcomes, respected House of Representatives member Adbelsalam Nasia said the outcomes reflected:

1- Continuing regional and international incompatibility on Libya.

2- There is no specific decision on the constitutional path, and there is no guarantee of the election results.

2- Despite talking about the exit of foreign forces and mercenaries simultaneously, the outcomes set out no clear mechanism for their departure.

3- There was also no mention of the path of unifying the Libyan military and security establishment.

What should Libyans do?

Nasia, therefore, concluded that it is now up to Libyans to move the process forward.

He said Libyans, and especially the Presidential Council must:

1- Carry out its duties in playing the role of the sponsor of the Libyan cause.

2- it must adhere to the date (24 December 2021) of the presidential and parliamentary elections.

3- Activating the role of the 5 + 5 Committee and granting it a specific period to unify the military and security institutions

Lamenting the weakness of the Berlin 2 outcomes, Nasia said ‘‘Today, it became more clear to the Libyans that no one wants to restore the state except the Libyans themselves. Therefore, they have to give priority to the higher interest, to concede to the homeland and to stay away from abhorrent personal selfishness.’’
