Libya's NOC Advances 'Think Tomorrow' Tree Planting Initiative

Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced today that it has completed the irrigation network for the first 100 hectares as part of the "Think Tomorrow" one million tree planting initiative‎.

‎The NOC said its team has completed the process of connecting and piloting irrigation networks on the 100 hectares in the Wahat area, in preparation for the start of the afforestation campaign.‎

‎It also revealed that its team will also begin preparing an additional area of about 100 hectares before the end of this week.‎

‎The initiative aims to plant one million trees in the areas of Al-Wahat, the Oil Crescent, Sinaoun, Mellitah Complex, Ubari, Bint Bey, Tragan, Sabha, Al-Bayda, Benghazi, and the oil fields.‎

Think Tomorrow launched at 2023 COP28 It will be recalled that the ‘‘Think Tomorrow’’ initiative launched by NOC chairman Farhat Bengdara at COP 28 in October 2023. It aimed to achieve a green and sustainable future for Libya by adopting environmentally friendly practices.

Harnessing 3,200 hours of sunlight The initiative also aims to make Libya the next solar energy powerhouse. This, Bengdara revealed, includes focusing on generating renewable energy to supply oil fields with clean energy by harnessing 3,200 hours of sunlight.

One million trees by 2025 The Think Tomorrow initiative also plans to increase green spaces in the oil territories by planting one million trees by 2025, which, Bengdara said, will absorb 24,000 tons of CO2 annually.
