Libya’s state (NOC) announced today that the specialized technical teams at Mellitah Oil and Gas Company completed the connection and commissioning of new gas compressors on the Sabratha offshore gas platform.
The NOC said this was part of a comprehensive work plan prepared and implemented according to the highest technical and operational standards, in coordination with the relevant NOC departments, and with the direct follow-up and support of the Chairman of the NOC Board of Directors.
The NOC explained that during this precise operation, the technical teams successfully shut down and restarted the gas wells and connected them to the new compressors within a record time of less than 30 hours.
It said this achievement reflects the high efficiency and advanced technical expertise of the national workforce, and their ability to maintain the continuity of supplies and ensure that the quantities of natural gas allocated to power generation plants were not affected throughout the implementation period.
Contributing to increasing production by approximately 28 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually
The installation of the new compressors is part of the project to maintain reservoir pressure, which contributes to extending its productive life, improving gas extraction efficiency, and increasing production rates.
These compressors are expected to contribute to increasing production by approximately 28 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually, in addition to increasing condensate production by about 360,000 barrels per year. This will enhance the field's production capacity and ensure the long-term sustainability of its resources.
The work included implementing all the necessary operational and technical arrangements and procedures to guarantee the safety and stability of the system throughout all phases of implementation. This will contribute to increasing gas production volumes and improving operational efficiency.
The resulting production increases have been directed to the coastal pipeline (Mellitah-Misrata), supporting gas supplies to power plants, helping maintain operational pressures and required quantities, and ensuring the stability and sustainability of gas supplies to various consumers.
