Qatar Airways Granted Permission to Open Branch in Libya

The Ministry of Economy and Trade reported today that Qatar Airways has been granted permission to open a branch in Libya.

This step, it added, paves the way for completing the necessary operational procedures to reactivate flights and connect Libya to the international air transport network.

Imad Ashour, Media Officer at the Ministry of Economy and Trade, stated to Libya Herald that granting Qatar Airways permission to open a branch reflects the Ministry's ongoing commitment to creating a business climate that attracts international investments and companies. It also aligns with the goal of streamlining administrative and regulatory procedures in accordance with the economic reform programme.

He added that the return of a major global airline to the Libyan market signals growing confidence among international companies regarding investment and business opportunities in the country. He noted that this move would boost air traffic and facilitate connections with regional and international markets, thereby supporting economic and commercial activity.

Ashour emphasized that the Ministry continues to work on a package of reforms aimed at improving the investment climate and encouraging foreign companies to expand their presence in the Libyan market.

These efforts are expected to yield positive results for the national economy and enhance the quality of services provided to citizens and the business sector. Granting authorization to Qatar Airways is viewed as a step supporting the return of international carriers to Libya, amidst a gradual improvement in the business environment; this move bolsters the trade and tourism sectors while expanding travel options and connectivity with global markets.
