The Attorney General's Office reports that the Anti-Corruption Prosecution in Tripoli has ordered the detention of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Marine Resources, its Director of Administrative Affairs, its representative to the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICAT), and two members of the Committee for the Distribution of Fishing Quotas for the year 2022.
The detention is pending on an investigation into violations in the management of the tuna fishing seasons from 2018 to 2025. During this time the defendants are accused of deliberately empowering one company to monopolize and prioritize its interests over the public interest and the rights of fishermen who meet the conditions to achieve illegal benefits.
