Tripoli, 8 December:

Eight Libyans accused of fighting for the Qaddafi regime during last year’s revolution have been spared imprisonment by the criminal court in Zawia, whilst another two have been acquitted altogether.

The eight were each handed a one-year suspended sentence on Thursday by Judge Masoud Issa Aezzabi.

It is worthy of note, however, that the Supreme Court recently issued a decree stating that any person who carried weapons or volunteered for the former regime during the revolution would be sentenced to between six months and one-and-a-half years' imprisonment, in addition to any other charges.
