The Libyan Customs Authority announced today that it has intensified its preparations for the reopening of Tripoli International Airport, by reviewing staffing, training, and logistical requirements to ensure the readiness of customs operations upon the airport's return to service.
The Authority affirmed that enhancing customs preparedness at the airport remains a key priority as part of its efforts to modernize operations and facilitate the movement of passengers and goods.
The Director General of the Customs Authority affirmed that preparing for the operation of Tripoli International Airport, in parallel with addressing the existing challenges at other customs ports, is a priority during the current phase.
This is part of the Customs Authority's efforts to develop customs performance, improve service levels, and enhance the role of customs ports in supporting the national economy and facilitating trade and travel.
It will be noted that neither the Tripoli government nor its Transport Ministry has confirmed the expected date of the reopening of Tripoli International Airport. However, several leaked photos and videos on social media suggest the airport is nearing completion.
Tripoli International Airport was totally destroyed by militia fighting in 2014 forcing Tripoli to use the former US Wheelus Airbase in central Tripoli, which Qaddafi renamed Mitiga Airport, as its main airport.
The announcement by the Customs Authority that it is preparing itself for the reopening of Tripoli International adds to public expectations and confirms the near readiness of the airport.
